‘Atithi Devo Bhav’

To enhance the understanding and acceptance of a different culture, a group of 15 girls of St. Anthony Girls’ College, Kandy, Sri Lanka along with their Principal Mrs. Chandana Ranasinghe and two teachers Mrs. Thushari De Silva and Miss Harshini Jayatunge visited Choithram School from August 23, 2018 to August 28, 2018.Students of classes IX and X of Scouts and Guide club conducted various fun-filled activities on August 24, 2018 for them.The global action song of Scout ‘Make a Melody’ followed by the demonstration of different types of claps -rain clap, boom boom chick chick clap, special clap, gun clap and scout and guide clap were enjoyed by the guests. Students also participated in the scout and guide game ‘Bang’ to learn various skills associated with the game. The history related to the importance of left hand shake was also shared with the guest students.

Laughter Yoga

‘A good laugh heals a lot of wounds’.To support both physical and emotional health in students, a ‘Laughter Yoga’ activity was organized by Scouts and Guides Club along with Health and Wellness Clubon July 21, 2018.The trainers Mrs. and Mr. Bisht demonstrated different laughing styles like greeting laugh, milk shake laugh, mistake laugh etc.to foster positive feelings to relax the mind and the body. Students enjoyed this priceless medicine interspersed with breathing techniques.

Investiture Ceremony

The Investiture Ceremony which is one of the most significant events for the Scouts and Guides/Cubs and Bulbuls was organized on February 28, 2018. The event aimed to contribute to the development of young Cubs and Bulbuls in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals. The programme started with a prayer song, flag song and lighting of lamp. The Guest of the event Mr. Kunal Mishra, Scouts Counselor of Choithram School was greeted through Badi Salami and Vishaal Garjana. Cubs and Bulbuls sang a patriotic song, Bulbuls performed a dance and after the oath ceremony the badges were given to the recruits. Mr. Mishra addressed all Cubs and Bulbuls and motivated them to build strong character by being independent, leading life in a disciplined manner and doing at least one good deed daily. The ceremony created in the recruits an attitude of staying together, listening to elders and being kind.

An Adventurous Hike to Devguradia

As a part of the annual activity, the Scout and Guides Club of the school organized a hike to Devguradia on February 17, 2018. 96 Scouts and Guides of classes VI to X along with teacher Incharges accompanied the enthusiastic students. The expedition began with visiting the Devguradia temple followed by climbing the Tekri. Mr. Kunal Mishra, Scouts Counselor instructed the students to be vigilant, safe and ultimately enjoy trekking.

Bal Mela Organized With Fervor and Enthusiasm

To mark the birth anniversary of Scouts and Guides founder Lord Baden Powell and Lady Baden Powell, Bal Mela was organized by the students of Scouts and Guides on February 22, 2018. The special guests were the senior employees of Choithram School viz. Mr. Anil Sharma (electrician), Tan Singh Bhaiya (conductor), Rewa Didi and Saya didi (Kitchen Workers). The Scouts Counselor Mr. Kunal Mishra along with his wife witnessed the mela and motivated the students for performing good deeds. An array of stalls and exciting games like magic show, card game, sharp shooter, fidget game, mehndi, tattoo and nails art were organized by the students.

International Adventure Camp at Pachmarhi

February 2 to 8, 2018

Keeping the spirit of international brotherhood in mind, around 1100 Scouts and Guides from countries like Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and India gathered in the National Adventure Institute, Pachmarhi to witness the 20th International Adventure Camp. 21 students of classes VIII & IX of the school attended this camp from February 2 to February 8, 2018 accompanied by Ms. Shweta Sharma, Mr. Durgesh Yadav and Mr. Vishal Tiwari.

This camp created a huge platform for all the children to understand and exchange their cultural heritage with one another. The activities comprised of 15 to 20 km of trekking every day to places like Duchess Fall, the highest peak of the Satpura Range, Dhoopgarh, Jatashankar, and Beefall. The special attractions of this camp were advance level of rock climbing, valley cross and rappelling. Lord Baden Powell’s dream of worldwide brotherhood was visible at the time of grand campfires when all 1100 children as well as their teachers gathered and enjoyed each other’s performances.

Adventurous Expedition at Pachmarhi

January 23 to 29, 2018

Scouts and Guides of classes VII to X accompanied by their Incharge teachers had an enriching experience attending the National Adventure Camp organized by the Bharat Institute Pachmarhi from January 23 to 29, 2018. Each session in the camp had interesting activities like horse riding, rock climbing, rifle shooting and mountaineering. The students enjoyed trekking at Beefall, Jata Shankar and Rajandragiri hills along with camp fire at night. These activities have helped them to acquire values like team work, sharing, caring and kindness.

Walk for Soul

December 10, 2017

To support the campaign ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyan’, a rally on the theme ‘Walk for Soul’ was organized on December 10, 2017 from Geeta Bhawan Square to Pritamlal Dua Sabhagrah by Inner Wheel Club of Indore Uptown. Around 200 people participated in the event. Students of Health and Wellness Club, Eco Club and Scouts and Guides of Choithram School along with the teachers walked to support the campaign and share their responsibility as an aware citizen. Mr. Gautam Kale, the Classical Vocalist of Sangeet Gurukul, addressed the rally. Children from ‘Muk Badhir School’ presented a mime on the theme ‘Clean India Green India’.

‘Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava’

‘Sarva Dharma Sama Bhava’ is an Indian concept embodying the equality of all religions. This concept was embraced by Mahatma Gandhi. To mark the birth anniversary of Gandhiji, Sarv Dharma Prarthna was organized by Scouts and Guides Club for the staff members on October 3, 2017. The teachers performed the prayer services and sang ‘Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram’, the famous devotional song of Bapu.

Celebration of International Peace Day in the Senior School

September 21, 2017

To bring harmony and happiness on earth, International World Peace Day was observed on September 21, 2017 during the morning assembly of the Senior School. The programme started with the popular bhajan of Mahatma Gandhi ‘Vaishnav Jan To’. Mr. Kunal Mishra, HWB Scoter of Scouts and Guides delivered a speech highlighting the importance of peace in one’s life. Students practiced meditation for inner peace and change. The programme ended with a song where Scouts and Guides joined their hands and lit candles praying for world peace.

Scouts and Guides Club celebrated International Peace Day on September 21 with great zeal. The day began with the prayer ‘All Faith Prayer’ in the morning assembly. A drawing competition was held for the students of classes IV and V. The cubs and bulbul of class III participated in the rally for peace with posters and banners to disseminate the message of peace and prosperity.

Preparing for Future

Students of class V were given the concept of 16 directions and were guided to identify the directions with the help of a compass on August 22, 2017. The objective of this activity was to prepare students for travel and real life situations. In extension to this activity the students played a game wherein they picked up chits in which a degree was mentioned and then moved towards that particular direction.

To mark the birth anniversary of Scouts and Guides founder Lord Baden Powell and Lady Baden Powell, ‘Baal Mela’ was organized in the school on February 22, 2017. Students and teacher from Shradhanand Ashram were the special guests on the occasion. An array of stalls and exciting games like magic show, mime show, dart game, clock and coin game attracted the special guests as they enjoyed every stall with their friends. It was indeed a practical learning experience for the scouts and guide students to bring miles of smiles on the faces of these children fulfilling the motto ‘Learn, Live and Hope’.

National Adventure Camp at Pachmarhi

Around 60 Scouts and Guides of classes VII to X accompanied by their teachers had an enriching experience attending the National Adventure Camp organized by Bharat Institute,Pachmarhi from January 17 to 23,2017. Students enjoyed the adventurous activities like horse riding, rock climbing, rifle shooting and mountaineering along with trekking at Bee Fall, Jata Shankar and Rajandragiri hills.These activities tested their physical endurance and time management skills. The camp fire at night displayed their talent and taught them team work and coordination. The experience helped to learn real life skills to combat real life situations.

‘When the world says give up, hope whispers: try it one more time’. Keeping this in mind the Scouts and Guides of classes VII to X attended the workshop on Organ Donation by Mr. SandipanAarya the Head of Muskan Organ Donation Group on October24, 2016. Mr. Aaryaurged the students to motivate their near and dear ones to donate organs. Students realized the need to donate organs as every life is precious. Mr. Aarya showed a video depicting the importance of donation of vital organs like kidney, heart, pancreas, intestine lungs, skin etc. He told everyone how one could continue to live even after one’s death.

Scouts & Guides Camp in Pachmarhi

Scouts and Guides of classes VI to X accompanied by teachers Ms. Shweta Sharma and Mr. Vishal Tiwarihad an enriching experience attending the National Adventure Camp organized by the Bharat Institute,Pachmarhi from April 22 to 28, 2016. Each session in the camp included interesting activities like rifle shooting, monkey climbing, chimney climbing, ladder climbing, mountaineering. The students enjoyed trekking at Beefall, Jata Shankar and Rajendragiri hills along with camp fire at night. These activities helped to foster important values like honesty, friendship, dignity, patience, integrity, discipline, kindness as well as important life skills like leadership, creativity and team spirit.

A three day training camp was organized for students of classes II to V of Scouts and Guides Activity in the school from April 11, 2016 to April 13, 2016 which included various sessions for students. Students of classes IV and V stayed in the school hostel for three days while students of classes II and III attended the camp every day from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm. The sessions comprised of the principles of scouting and guiding, cultural and art activities and games. Each session was invigorating with interesting activities like Monkey Bridge, Ladder Climbing, Commando Bridge and Balancing on Pole.

‘Scouting changes the attitude from ‘what can I get’ to ‘what can I give.’To mark the birth anniversary of Sir Robert Baden Powell and Lady Baden Powell ‘Baal Mela’ was organized in the school on February 16, 2016. Choithram Scouts and Guides arranged a carnival for he underprivileged children of ‘MookBadhirSangathan’ (a school of deaf and dumb). An array of stalls and exciting games like magic show, mime show, dart game, shoot the ball, clock and coin game attracted the special guests as they enjoyed every stall with their friends. The responsibility, dedication and commitment of Choithramians towards the visually and aurally challenged children was praiseworthy. It was indeed a practical learning experience for the scouts and guide students to bring miles of smiles on the faces of such uniquely abled children.

Hiking to Baigram

To know the importance of nature, Scouts and Guides of VI to X went for hiking to Baigramon February 13, 2016. After strenuous trekking they reached a farm house and enjoyed in the stream of water and nature’s beauty. The day was filled with fun and frolic as the students played many games. They learnt a lesson of life that one way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure.

To know the importance of nature Scouts and Guides of class VII visited school’s nursery. The School Horticulturist Mr. Rana explained the importance of different species of plants and trees. It was a unique experience for children to feel and touch the rich treasure of nature. Students also learnt the benefits of medicinal plants like Sandal, Aloe Vera and Basil.

Devansh Mishra of class IX B participated in the World Scout Jamboree Event in Japan where 33,000 scouts from 153 countries of the world assembled for twelve days in the month of August 2015. Every day was structured into different activities like the Science Module, Cultural Module, Water Module, Global Developing Village etc. The experience enriched Devansh with life skills and values as jamboree provides one world class opportunity to learn about the culture of different countries, to swap the tradition of one’s country with the others and above all to develop strong bond of friendship and love all over the world.

Scouts and Guides activities inspire hope, ignite the imagination and instil a love for learning. Keeping this in mind, a myriad of activities were organized for students of classes II to VIII. Class II & III students learnt various types of claps. Class IV students learnt the Lunch Prayer, the slogan ‘KoshishKaro’while Class V students learnt different types of knots. Class 6 students learnt about the importance of left-hand shaking and saluting while class 7 students learnt two important life saving knots – ‘Reffknots’ and ‘Clovehitch’.Class 8 students enhanced their knowledge on signalling alphabet. Students of this club sang patriotic songs on August 15, 2015 to spread faith peace and harmony.

Through various fun filled activities like games, story narration and songs students of class II, III, IV and V learnt different standing positions and types of salutes. Class VIstudents grasped many values, Class VII students enacted the rules and regulations of Scouts and Guides while Class VIII students learnt signalling alphabets.

Adventurous Trek

‘Adventure is measured not only in achievement but in lessons learnt, lives touched and moments shared along the way.’This was proved when the students of classes VI to IX went for hiking to Kalakund on February 14, 2015. The experience enriched them with skills like experiential learning, teamwork, collaboration, compassion, care and concern. The Cubs and Bulbuls of Junior School (classes II and III) had great fun at the beautiful Tincha Fall on February 28, 2015 and enjoyed trekking on the hill.

Adventurous Trek

‘Adventure is inside man, the need is to unravel it.’ This came true when the young ones of classes VI to VIII enjoyed the trek at Janapaw on February 22, 2014, the birth anniversary of Lord Baden Powell, founder of the Scouts Movement.The students of classes II and III had an adventurous and fun filled day when they went for hiking at Ralamandal on March 8, 2014.

Overview of Activities for the Session 2012 – 2013

March 2013

Scouts & Guides has been introduced for students of classes I and II as well as VI and VII from the session 2012 -2013. Various activities like different types of clapping, songs, games along with rules and regulations and motto of ‘Scouts and Guides’ were introduced for students during the school hours. Patrol leaders as well as assistant patrol leaders were also inducted in the senior classes. Students of classes VI and VII had a fun-filled day when they were went for trekking to Ralamandal on March 9, 2013. A three day camp was also organized in the school in the month of April 2013 to make the students independent learners.
