INDIA SUSTAINABILITY HOUR FOR SUSTAINIBILTY AND CLIMATE ACTION BY ACCENTURE

A special workshop on Sustainability and Climate Action was organized for students of Grades VII and IX by the Accenture team. The session aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through an engaging Design Thinking approach.

The workshop began with students identifying major challenges faced by the community, followed by an introduction to the concept of sustainability and its relevance in daily life. Students also shared examples of sustainable practices they personally follow. A video on sustainability further enriched the discussion.

The facilitators explained the Sustainability Wedding Cake Model, linking it to the interactive design-thinking process. The session became increasingly dynamic as students participated in brainstorming activities, enthusiastically expressing their ideas on climate action and highlighting SDGs that require attention. Their involvement demonstrated a strong awareness of environmental concerns. The students also took a pledge for using sustainable practices in everyday life and plant a greater number of trees regularly.
Overall, the workshop was insightful, interactive, and impactful, enhancing students’ understanding of global sustainability issues and inspiring them to contribute meaningfully to climate action

Creating a Digital Avatar as a Climate Action School

Manasvi Patangia of Grade 9 designed the ‘Mango Tree’ in Canva as the digital avatar of Choithram School as part of the Climate Action Schools Program. In the video, Manasvi beautifully explains that, The Mango Tree – the life of Choithram and the pride of every Choithramian, stands as a powerful symbol of resilience and belonging. More than a 50-year-old tree, it represents a sense of homecoming for every student and serves as an integral part of both our school and the local community. This digital avatar reflects resilience through the tree’s ability to withstand five decades of change while selflessly providing a greener, calmer, and nurturing environment.

Asset Mapping by Climate Champions by Final Inventory data gathering

As part of the Climate Action Schools Program, we have to conduct the following activities in the month of February to gather quantitative and qualitative data to assess the current state of school resources and needs. Asset Mapping was completed by student climate inventory, staff climate inventory and final climate inventory. A final champions inventory was also submitted with reference to the data collected.

Climate Action Schools Branching Out Activity/Community Engagement Activity

A new step in the climate action schools program called “Climate Action Schools Branching Out” activity was conducted. Considering our school keystone species the expert i.e. the senior horticulturist was interviewed with reference to biodiversity and sustainability with reference to climate change. A worksheet was also submitted.

Nurture Nature – Every Drop, Every Leaf Matters: World Earth Day

Earth Day was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm, fostering a deep sense of empathy toward nature and its precious resources. Manasvi Patangia of Grade X, who leads the Finite Earth initiative, addressed the assembly and highlighted key ideas such as conserving resources for future generations and adopting sustainable practices. Students also took a heartfelt pledge to use resources wisely and protect the environment.

Adding a creative touch to the celebrations, students designed beautiful rangolis portraying Earth as Mother Nature, which were admired by both primary and senior wings. Colourful posters prepared by students of Grades 4 and 5 centered around the theme, were displayed with thoughtful captions.

As part of the initiative, student global ambassadors carried out a tree plantation drive to enhance greenery on the campus and spread environmental awareness.

In the primary and Montessori blocks, students came dressed in green and blue attire symbolizing Earth and nature, and pledged to keep our planet happy and healthy. The youngest learners, including nursery and Montessori students, enthusiastically participated in activities such as sponge dabbing on images of Earth, removing harmful plastic from a “sad” Earth, and transforming it into a “happy” one—helping them understand the importance of protecting and preserving our planet.

Empowering Young Minds for a Better Tomorrow! – Session with Accenture Representatives

The students of Grade 5 had the opportunity to participate in an enriching video conferencing session led by three resource persons from Accenture – Mr. Himanshu Tomar, Ms. Suhani Narayan, and Ms. Anumeha Jain. With 20 enthusiastic students, the session focused on UN SDG 13: Climate Action, encouraging young learners to reflect on their role in building a sustainable future. Titled Sustainability Hour, the session began with a thought-provoking video illustrating how even one hour can make a difference.

It was highly interactive, with students actively engaging in discussions on current environmental challenges. They reflected on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and shared ways they could contribute at their own level to protect the environment. A key highlight was the pledge activity, where each student wrote personal commitments to help save the Earth. The session also included impactful videos on environmental issues, further enriching the learning experience. Students enthusiastically answered questions, shared ideas, and demonstrated a growing sense of awareness and responsibility.
