Ms. Anjali Anand Seth, Associate Vice President of International Admissions at Wesleyan College, USA, conducted a session with the girl students of the Choithram Group of Schools on Monday, October 28, 2024, in Choithram School, Manik Bagh Campus. She provided an overview to the girls of grade 12 about the courses and scholarships offered by her college.

Premier merit-based scholarships worth $80,000 and $100,000, as well as the OWS full-ride scholarship of $184,000 (need-based), will be available for students who apply in the first round. She explained that the early action application deadline is November 15, 2024. Students can apply either through the Common App or directly. There is no application fee.

A University Education Fair was organised on September 09, 2024 and September 10, 2024 by Choithram International an IB World School. Students of grade 11 and 12 participated in the fair.Various national and international universities showcased their details regarding infra-structure, fees structure, admission procedures, discount schemes etc. It was an excellent opportunity for our students those who are exploring their higher education options so as to clarify the details with the university representatives.

A University Education Fair was organised on Tuesday, September 03, 2024 in collaboration with KIC UnivAssist for grade 11 and 12 students by Choithram School Manikbagh. The students of CSMB and CI were informed about the various career options and admission procedures to various universities in the US. 11 Universities from the US participated in the Fair. Students visited the stalls to meet the University delegates to understand about the courses, eligibility requirements and fee structure which will enable them to make an informed decision in case they wish to study abroad.

Visit by Japanese Delegation

A Japanese delegation comprising Mr. Hirofumi Kamemoto,Senior Marketing Director AnabukiGakuen School Corporation, Mr. Koji Hayashi, General Manager ASOJukuEducational Corporation and Mr. Naoki Akao,Principal ASOJuku International Exchange Center accompanied byMr.Dharmendra Kumar,President Fukuoka India Friendship Association visited Choithram School ManikBagh Campus on Thursday, July 4, 2024. They interacted with the students of Choithram School Manikbagh and Choithram International apprising them about the Japanese language requirements for admission in Japanese colleges. They threw light on various vocational opportunities and courses offered by the ASO College Group in Fukuoka city, Japan. The representatives also discussed about the college campus facilities and extracurricular activities designed for international students and their commitment to supporting student exchange programmes.

University Education Fair

September 8, 2023

Students of grade 12 of the school attended University Admission Fair organised by Choithram International on September 8, 2023. Representatives of more than 70 universities from the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Europe and India participated in the Fair and apprised the students about the fee structure, scholarships, eligibility requirements and courses offered. The fair provided an excellent opportunity for students to gather information about various universities and make informed decisions about their future education. Students were able to interact with university representatives, ask questions, and gain insights into the application process and admission criteria.

September 6, 2023

Grade 11 students attended a session on Higher Education in the US, which was conducted by Ms. Jenn Pham from Goucher College, Ms. Emma Kamen from Marymount Manhattan College, and Mr. Daing Nasir from the University of Wyoming on September 6, 2023. During the session, the representatives discussed various topics including Experiential Learning in small, private liberal arts colleges, Creative Arts and Liberal Arts in the US as well as Scholarships in the US universities, and the application process for these scholarships, particularly in large public state universities. They provided valuable insights on need and merit-based scholarships, the IELTS exam, and how to develop a strong profile.

The school hosted a University Education Fair on August 25, 2023 in collaboration with KICUnivAssist to apprise grade 12 students about the admission procedure in various universities in the US. Mr. Swaraj Nandan from KICUnivAssist provided information on the wide range of career choices available to students and emphasized the importance of making an informed decision. Later the students interacted with delegates of 16 universities of the US and Canada to learn more about the fee structure, scholarships, eligibility requirements and courses offered.

Representatives of US Colleges Visit the School

November 14, 2022

Representatives of Goucher College, USA and York College of Pennsylvania, USAconducted a session for students of classes XI and XII and briefed the students about the admission process in these colleges.The representative informed that Goucher College is a private liberal arts college in Towson, Maryland and is one of the colleges ‘That Change Lives’ of its students. The selection process at Goucher is highly individualized, and members of the admissions committee pay particularly close attention not only to students’ academic development, but also to their personal qualities, talents, interests, and extracurricular involvement—qualifications that may not be reflected in standardized test scores, which are optional in their admissions process. The representative of York College of Pennsylvania, USA informed that the York Collegeis an established private college nestled between Baltimore, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia and is home to 3,500 undergraduate. The focus of their programmes is experiential learning aligned with UNSDGs which enables students to think critically and learn actively. The two representatives also answered student queries related to need based and merit based scholarships.

Session on Study Opportunities in the UK by British Council Representative

Ms. KhyatiVed, British Council Manager – Higher Education conducted a session for students of classes XI and XII and elucidated about study opportunities in the UK after class XII. She apprised the students that most undergraduate applications to the UK are made through the online portal UCAS wherein students can apply for up to five courses by paying a small application fee. She briefed the students about how UK universities help the students to think differently, help them to question information and theories with an open mind as well as encourage them to recognize good ideas. She also addressed student queries around these topics.

September 12, 2022

Ms. Pelesino Ane Kevichusa, Executive Director of Admission at Savannah College of Art and Design, Atlanta, Georgia, United States visited the school on September 12, 2022 and briefed the students about the admission process in this college. She took the students on a virtual tour of the college through you tube videos. She informed them about the importance of letters of recommendation and good academic scores for securing a scholarship. The students learnt that the college does not require clearing of SAT or ILETS examination.

Skill Maestro, Indore conducted a session for students of classes XI and XII on September 6, 2022 about opportunities of studying in foreign countries especially the USA, the UK and Canada. The resource person Mr. Pankaj Parihar guided the students on the various aspects of taking the SAT exam. He also emphasized on the academic scores and extracurricular achievements which play a pivotal role in the admission process in the US universities. The students also learnt about the need based and merit based scholarship. The session concluded with the clarification of queries of the students.

Session on Study Abroad by Global Gateways

September 1, 2022

Mr. Stanley of Global Gateways conducted a session for students of class XII on September 1, 2022 and briefed them about courses in various Universities / Colleges around the world especially, the European Union, the USA, Australia, Canada and the UK. He also apprised the students about scholarship programmes in developed countries of Europe including full tuition fee waiver for the entire degree programme, stipend of minimum INR 4.5 lac every year, hostel expenses for entire course duration and monthly part time income of around 40000 to 50000 INR. The session ended with discussion on various questions raised by the students.

Session by Delegate of Queen Mary University of London, UK

June 9, 2020

Ms. Mishi Sardana, Student Recruitment Officer (India) of Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), UK – part of the prestigious Russell Group of Universities, in collaboration with KC Overseas, Bhopal apprised the students of classes XI and XII about the admission procedure in this university during her session on June 9, 2020.

The session primarily focused on bringing awareness to the students about what United Kingdom and QMUL in specific has on offer to international students traveling to the UK in coming intakes and the career choices one can opt for after the completion of a bachelor’s programme within the country. Ranked 126 in the University League Rankings with an employability ratio of well above 95%, Ms. Sardana elaborated on the benefits a student can experience during their degree time at their venerated academia. Situated right at the heart of the Commercial hub in London the University boasts of its rich industry tie-ups which allow students to get a first-hand experience of what it means to work in a professional environment.

Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Privy Council, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) Ms. Sardana informed that the university not just offers various bachelors level courses leading either to a full-time employment opportunity or further study option but also provides ample scholarship opportunities on offer to international applicants. Mr. Om Singh Chauhan from Daly College Business School, Indore also accompanied the delegates and commenced the session with a discussion on employer’s attitude. The interactive session dealt with business acumen, financial management, decision making followed by the brief about the De Montfort University which engages students to care about their future by Mr. Ian Thomas. US Session on Higher Education & Emerging Careers

KIC Univ Assist conducted a session on ‘21st Century Emerging Careers and the Changing Field of Education’ to apprise the students of classes XI and XII about the admission procedure in various universities in the US. 25 students from Choithram School attended the session on August 26, 2019.

The resource person Mr. Swaraj Nandan began the introductory session stating the US as the most preferred destination due to flexibility, diversity and highest employability. Speaking on robotization, digitalization and automation, he informed the students about the massive jobs in certain sectors like Airlines, Creative Careers and Climate Change etc. Quoting the US as the top destination for international students, he briefed about the application procedure, scholarships etc. for admission to these universities.

Session on Admission Procedure at Birmingham City University, UK

August 22, 2019

Ms. Ridhi Gosar, Student Recruitment Officer (India) of Birmingham City University, UK apprised the students of classes XI and XII about the admission procedure in this university during her session on August 22, 2019. The resource person began the session asking about the career choices of the students followed by her educational experience. Stating BCU as ranking 7th in the UK for employability, she explained that over 97% of the students of this university are employed or in the further study within six months of graduating. She also apprised about the design and location of BCU, internationally accredited courses, such as CIMA, ACCA and RIBA, scholarship opportunities, fee structure and procedure for admission along with the facilities provided there. The details regarding documents and job placements were also shared by her. Students will have the chance to gain industry and professional practice experience through work placements, mentoring schemes, Erasmus+ and study abroad exchanges overseas. The University offers career support and advice throughout student’s time with them and for up to three years after student’s graduate. Session on Admission Procedure at Miami University, USA

April 3, 2019

Mr. Aaron Bixler, Associate Director of Recruitment from Miami University, USA conducted a session to apprise students of class XI and XII on the admission procedure at Miami University in the US on April 3, 2019. Miami University is a public university located in Oxford, Ohio and has a student body of 19,000 and effectively combines a wide range of strong academic programmes. The University offers bachelor’s degrees in over 120 areas of study across six Academic schools. Session on ‘Study Abroad Opportunities in Germany’

January 16, 2018

Mr. Rakesh Kumar from Abroad College and working in Cologne, Germany conducted a session on the undergraduate courses and different educational Programes in Germany for the students of class XI on January 16, 2018. The resource person briefed about Abroad College which works in collaboration with the Aachen University of Technology, listed under the top 20 Universities of the world.

He informed the students about 138 International Programmes and specific language courses along with the fee structure and the semester exam pattern in Germany. As the Universities in Germany have a wide network of partnerships with local and international research institutes, students can connect part time with European Union affiliated companies to gain experience and financial assistance. The speaker also invited the students for the Summer Programme of about two weeks to gain insight into the various courses. The interactive session ended with the clarification of certain queries pertaining to learning programme in Germany.

A session based on exploring higher opportunities at the US universities was organized in the school for the students of classes XI and XII on August 22, 2017. The delegates from Florida International University (Ms. Laura Pacchioni), Ohio University (Ms. Vicky Seefeldt West), University of California, Riverside (Ms. SerayTeleke) and University of Oklahoma (Mr. Dakota Horn) interacted with the students to provide them information regarding the undergraduate courses available in these universities.

Mr. RohitKandari, Project Lead of KIC UnivAssist apprised the students about the changing world of careers. As the US education encourages innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, it has become the most preferred destination with 4700+ universities and colleges. The speaker guided the students to pursue their passion and explore variety of careers as flexibility and diversity have become the focal areas of education. He also informed about the two year, four year degree courses, application deadlines, scholarships and SAT exam.

An informative session on ‘SAT exam for admission to the US universities’ was conducted for the parents and students by the College Board organisation on January 16, 2017 in our school. The resource person Ms. Lisa Jain, Country Representative – India, College Board briefed everyone about the mission driven non-profit College Board organisation engaged in conducting exams for the US universities. SAT is regarded as one of the critical parts of the US College application and focuses on skill based assessment rather than curriculum based. University Professors from US Universities Apprise Students About Various Career Options in US

To explore the diverse opportunities in career and education, a session on ‘Studying in the USA’ was conducted by Mr. Ganesh Kohli, Director KIC UnivAssiston July 26, 2015 for the students of classes XI and XII. Through a presentation based on the US education ethos of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Creativity, he explained the contribution of American universities and colleges in producing technical experts and Nobel laureates.

In the subsequent session, delegates from nine US universities as part of the KIC UnivAssist 2016 Fall American University Tour introduced the locations, fast facts and application requirements of their institutions. Students interacted with the delegates of these institutions based on their areas of study and interest. The delegates were from Hillsborough Community College, New York Film Academy, Ohio University, Savannah College of Art and Design, SUNY Plattsburgh, University at Buffalo, the State University of New York, University of California, Irvine, University of Oklahoma and Washington & Jefferson College. The session benefitted the students in understanding and developing the better education plan for their future.

Workshop on SAT and Letters of Recommendation for US Universities

An informative session on ‘ How can school help students to take SAT exam and how to write effective letters of recommendation for the US universities?’ was conducted for the teachers and counsellors of various schools by the College Board organization on April 16, 2016 at Emerald Heights International School. Ms. Lisa Jain, Country Director – India of College Board briefed everyone about the College Board organization engaged in conducting exams for the US universities. Ms. Raminder Mac, Dean – International Affairs, Ms. Chitralekha Kulkarni, HOD English Department, Senior School and Ms. Dipti Telang, faculty, English Department, Senior School attended the session.

SAT is regarded as one of the critical parts of the US College application and focuses on skill based assessment rather than curriculum based. The resource person elaborately explained the procedure and mode of application stressing on the six digit International School code for identification. The benefits of taking SAT, useful predictors, suite of assessment, testing windows in fall and spring were also dealt in depth by the speaker. The speaker also informed about the eight key changes to SAT, exam format and administrative timelines till 2018 along with the redesigned SAT applicable from May 2016. Focusing on the need to take the three dimensional essay based on reading, writing and analysis, the resource person also discussed the details regarding scores, sub scores and score delivery. The expert also advised to take PSAT/NMSQT for diagnostic assessment.

The second session was based on ‘How to write effective letters of recommendation for the US universities?’ The emphasis was laid on the components of application including school profile, purpose and courses offered. The recommendation letters one each by a counsellor and a teacher are mandatory for admission. The speaker suggested to the teachers to look for the human element in the recommendation letters and guided to include the evidences, anecdotes, examples to make it effective and unique in all respects. Citing the role of the counsellor as floodlight and teachers as spotlight, the speaker listed the criteria like intellectual curiosity, level of engagement, willingness to take risk and depth for admission to highly competitive colleges. The enriching learning session ended with the discussions on the various questions raised by the participants.
